What is a dislocated worker?
Your parent/parents are considered dislocated workers if they:
- Have been laid off. This is a parent who has lost their job out of their control. This does not apply to a parent to voluntarily leaves their job.
- Are receiving unemployment benefits as a result of being laid off. This is a parent who has lost their job out of their control and is receiving employment compensation while they look for a new job)
- Is a displaced homemaker. This is a stay-at-home parent who has had to relocate due to factors beyond their control, such as a move due to financial issue.
- Had been self-employed, but no longer working due to factors beyond their control. This is a parent who may have owned their own business and lost their business due to factors out of their control. This does not apply to a parent to voluntarily sells or closes their business because they wish to pursue a different job.
- Is a spouse of an active duty member of the military and has lost a job or has been unsuccessful in finding a job as a result of having to relocate to a new place. This is a parent who may have had a job in one place, but whose spouse may have been relocated to another military base, and so this parent may have had to give up their job as a result.
