Why are they asking this information?

This question helps to determine if you, the student, may be a dislocated worker, which may automatically qualify you for specific federal aid, such as the Pell Grant. 

You are considered a dislocated worker if you:

  • Have been laid off
  • Are receiving unemployment benefits as a result of being laid off
  • Are a displaced homemaker (stay-at-home student who has had to relocate)
  • Had been self-employed, but no longer working due to factors beyond your control
  • Are a spouse of an active duty member of the military and has lost a job or has been unsuccessful in finding a job as a result of having to relocate to a new place

How to answer this question / fill out this section

If you do not meet the criteria for a dislocated worker, you will select “No.” If you meet any of the above criteria, select “Yes.”
