Methodology

To obtain the survey data, we collected responses from internet users using Amazon’s Mechanical Turk. We gathered responses from 605 parents who had co-signed a student loan for one or more child. All respondents passed an attention check question.

The data we are presenting rely on self-reporting. There are many issues with self-reported data. These issues include but are not limited to: selective memory, telescoping, attribution, and exaggeration.
